    Steven P. Pharis is the founder, CEO and President of Tutela, Inc. Since its inception in 2002, Tutela has provided integrated, innovative security solutions for a wide range of regional, national and international companies. Today, under Steven’s stewardship, Tutela has an industry-wide reputation for reliable quality, technological expertise and unmatched customer service.

    Steven has enjoyed a long career in the security industry. For over a decade, he worked with Integrated Access Systems (IAS), a security integrator in New Jersey, where he held roles of increasing responsibility, culminating in a sales management position supervising more than 10 sales executives responsible for generating more than $20 million in annual sales. Prior to this role, Steven was the eastern sales manager of Geoffrey Industries (now Vanderbilt Industries), a subsidiary of IAS. Over the course of his tenure, Steven was a leader in consulting, systems design, sales and project management for a broad range of security system products including access control, video, and alarm monitoring.

    Steven is a member of the American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS) and holds applicable licenses in California, Florida, Kentucky, North Carolina, Texas and Virginia. Steven graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Science degree in business economics.

  • Robert Kristensen, Vice President of Sales & Operations

    Robert Kristensen joined Tutela in 2005 and currently serves as the Vice President of Sales and Operations. He is responsible for leading sales and customer service for the company and manages a team of five regional sales managers. Through his vast and diverse experience, Bob has built a comprehensive understanding of all facets of security integration, from charting strategy and overseeing operations to coordinating field service technicians.

    Bob has overseen several large-scale roll-outs of access control and CCTV system upgrades for organizations with multiple sites across multiple states. He also supervised the design, engineering and system deployment for the Chubb Group. Prior to joining Tutela, Bob held various positions over 20 years in the security integration industry at Integrated Access Systems (IAS) in New Jersey, and then at Ingersoll Rand Safety and Security. Bob began his career at IAS in the service department and subsequently was promoted to various positions in purchasing and sales, culminating in a position as National Account Manager. During his tenure at both companies, Bob successfully managed large national and international accounts.

    Bob holds a BASA/FASA license in Florida, an alarm license in North Carolina and Ohio, and a DCJS security license in Virginia. He also is a member of the American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS).

  • Jim Purvis, Director of Operations

    Jim Purvis joined Tutela in 2008 and brought with him more than 18 years of industry experience in electronics, low voltage, fire alarms and communications. He currently is the Director of Operations and is responsible for service, installations, and purchasing for all Tutela clients nationwide. His deep knowledge and experience make him an asset to our clients.

    Prior to joining Tutela, Jim worked as an operations manager at Savannah Systems, a successful low voltage service company that specialized in military installations in Savannah, Georgia. In this position, he oversaw the installation and service departments. Jim also built a low voltage division for Affordable Fire, a large sprinkler company in Georgia. In this role, he was responsible for all operations and division development. Jim began his career in electronics and communications at Motorola, where he advanced to senior field manager for the field operations division of the company.

    Jim currently holds an NICET4 fire alarm certificate and is certified in Firelite, EST, Notifier, Silent Knight, Salient Video, Axis Video, DMP and Vanderbilt. Additionally, he holds a low voltage unrestricted license in Georgia, is BASA/FASA certified in Florida and has alarm installer and alarm planning and superintendent licenses in Texas. Jim also is a member of Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

  • Brad Wareham, Director of Engineering

    Brad Wareham is the Director of Engineering at Tutela and brings more than 30 years of experience in fire, access, video and alarm systems to our clients. His expertise has aided in the development of a national presence for Tutela by aligning the company with industry technology leaders. He is responsible for developing technology, design, engineering and customer support.

    Brad started at Tutela in 2005 as a service technician and installer with responsibilities in the western region. Prior to joining the company, Brad was a sales manager for ASG Integrated Systems where he was responsible for sales and technical support for a large customer base. He also owned and subsequently sold a company called ASG in Denver, Colorado, which specialized in all facets of the security industry. He started his career at Detect-O-Larm, which was acquired by Wells Fargo, and held positions of increasing responsibility at National Guardian Security Services and Integrated Access Systems. Brad earned an Associate degree at the Southwest School of Electronics.

  • Kurt Heinicke, Senior Sales Engineer

    Kurt Heinicke brings more than 30 years of diversified security industry experience to his role as Senior Sales Engineer at Tutela where he is responsible for estimating, consulting, sales application engineering, company-wide engineering and AutoCAD standards.

    Kurt has a broad range of experience that has touched every aspect of the security industry including installation, service, project management, consulting, estimating and engineering. This experience has been a key asset in overseeing national projects for companies.

    Before joining Tutela in 2013, Kurt held positions at Merrill Lynch, where he served as an in-house security advisor; at ESA (part of Syska-Hennessy), where he was director of security consulting; at Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies, where he was manager of engineering services; and at NAV Integrated Security Technology, where he was a senior engineer/estimator. Kurt is a member of the American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS).

  • Tim Kelly, Director of Sales & Marketing

    Tim Kelly serves as the Director of Sales and Marketing for Tutela where he leads our business development, marketing and communication initiatives. He joined Tutela in 2011 as a member of the sales team and was responsible for managing the business operations and revenue growth for the company’s national accounts program.

    Prior to joining Tutela, Tim was the principal and managing director at Declan Consulting, a consulting firm that focused on business strategy consulting through targeted messaging and marketing solutions, organizational management and business process analysis. While at Declan Consulting, Tim helped launch start-up enterprises and assisted distressed companies weather tough economic climates. Tim began his career in the telecommunications industry, where he held several key positions and managed global sales strategy for Fortune 500 clients, across a multitude of vertical markets for Verizon Business.

    In addition to his responsibilities at Tutela, Tim is an adjunct professor of marketing and economics at Concordia College in New York. He also is a member of the American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS), the American Marketing Association (AMA), and is the president of the New York City chapter of The University of Connecticut Alumni Association. He earned an M.B.A. from The University of Connecticut School of Business and was inducted into The University of Connecticut Hall of Fame that same year he earned his degree. Tim also holds a bachelor of science in business administration from Concordia College. A military veteran, Tim served in the United States Air Force, during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

  • Michael Koenig, Chief Financial Officer

    Michael Koenig joined Tutela in 2015 and currently serves as the company’s Chief Financial Officer. He is responsible for finance, banking, accounting, corporate taxation, legal issues, insurance and mergers and acquisitions. Michael has worked with Tutela in several ancillary roles over the past 12 years, helping to grow the company into a security industry leader. His comprehensive set of skills and experience in all facets of finance and back office support, from auditing to coordinating new building construction, coupled with his deep understanding of Tutela’s culture, makes Michael a key member of the leadership team.

    Prior to joining Tutela, Michael worked as the Director of Finance for ALPLA, Inc, a successful plastic packing manufacturer that specializes in consumer containers. While at ALPLA, Michael coordinated and oversaw expansion efforts that grew sales from $168MM to over $400MM in less than seven years. Over the past 25 years, Michael has had successful careers at large companies including Rayonier, Rexam, Centro and Arthur Andersen. In recent years, Michael has received several national awards for his work in creating and implementing employee benefits for health and wellness. Michael is always focused on continuous improvement in all aspects of business and he is deeply passionate about process improvement. He constantly challenges himself and his colleagues by asking: “How can we continue to get better?”

    Michael holds a BBA in accounting from the University of Michigan and an MBA in Finance from The University of Iowa. Michael is a CPA, and an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Rotary International and his church finance council.

  • Cliff Brennan, National Account Manager

    Cliff Brennan joined Tutela as a national account manager in 2013, and brought 13 years of experience in sales, business development and oversight of installation and implementation of integrated security solutions for commercial business, specializing in national multi-property accounts. Currently, Cliff is responsible for business development and ensures that Tutela exceeds expectations for its client base.

    Cliff has held positions of increasing responsibility at several security integrators including Kratos Public Safety and Security (formerly Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies), and Integrated Access Systems (IAS). While at Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies, Cliff was nominated for the President’s Award as a result of the dramatic growth of his account base that consisted of clients in both the national and international communities.

    Cliff currently is an active member of the Western New Jersey chapter of the American Society for Industry Security International (ASIS). He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Montclair State University.
